Full of Good Cheer

The street appeared to be deserted. It was dark, there was no moon and it was drizzling. Shadows played on the watery pavement and he wondered why his footsteps were making no sound, not to mention why he wasn't both cold and wet. The buildings were slick with rain; dark, brooding shapes that blocked out life and left him shivering in spite of feeling no chill. This was his city and yet it seemed almost surreal and unfamiliar.
